Pao Arts Center proudly hosted violinist and composer Shaw Pong Liu as its inaugural artist-in-resident.
During Sing Home, a song-sharing project that collects and shares songs of the people of Boston’s Chinatown, Liu engaged the community through outdoor performances, singalongs, song exchanges, one-on-one conversations, and even live band karaoke! The project serves as a way to start conversations about immigration, neighborhood, and cultural and civic identity. Through her project, Liu explores how understanding the musical history of the people in one neighborhood contributes to a wider conversation on immigration. The Sing Home library debuted in July 2018.
