Experience Chinatown 2022 Artists Application

We are looking for engaged, excited artists to adorn Boston Chinatown businesses with painted or vinyl murals during our 5th annual Experience Chinatown Arts Festival. Each artist will be paired with a participating Chinatown business to design a mural piece using the Experience Chinatown color palette (tbd) to be installed in late August, and to be displayed from August 26 until October 24. This year we are asking artists to create their murals in response to the prompt, "What makes a community special?"

Experience Chinatown is Pao Art Center’s annual arts festival that celebrates the rich cultural fabric of Boston’s Chinatown. Throughout August to October, visitors to Chinatown will be immersed in musical acts, dance performances, artmaking activities, and art installations - all free and open to the public.

In 2020, Pao Arts Center began including murals as part of the Experience Chinatown festival with the goal of uplifting businesses and attracting visitors back to Chinatown during the height of the pandemic. Since then, these murals have become a signature part of the annual Experience Chinatown festival.
