In-Person Option:
Stop by Pao Arts Center from Tuesday, February 8 - Sunday, February 13 and pick up an activity packet you can do at home alongside the videos featuring artists Rayna Lo and Shaina Lu . No sign up is needed. Note that masks and proof of vaccination are needed for entry (read more).
While at Pao Arts Center, you can enjoy our current exhibit, Intergenerational Storytelling , enjoy a special exhibit featuring Traditional Lion Heads from Asia by Ken Morin, and snap a selfie at the Lion Dance photo booth designed by Nüwa Athletic Club.

About The Artists:
Xiaoyoung Liu
Xiaoyong Liu emigrated to the United States in 2008. In 2009, he started teaching children and adults Chinese painting of landscapes, flowers, and birds. In recent years, his students have exhibited their art and participated and won awards in the National Teenagers Calligraphy Contests.
Shaina Lu (she/her) is a queer Taiwanese-American artist interested in the intersection of art, education, and activism. She studied Arts in Education at Harvard Graduate School of Education, and her art and teaching practice focuses on storytelling and amplifying community voices. Shaina drinks juice every day, and she is full of sugar.
I am an artist living in Boston, Massachusetts, USA (the indigenous land of the Mashpee Wampanoag, Aquinnah Wampanoag, Nipmuc, and Massachusett tribal nations). I am a calligrapher, illustrator, & educator. I was born and grew up in Chicago, IL (the indigenous land of the Council of the Three Fires–the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi Nations tribal nations). I am a child of Taiwanese immigrants. Before embracing myself as an artist, I worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 10+ years.
Ken Morin
Ken has called Boston Chinatown his home for the last 17 years, where he has lived, worked, and played. He has also been involved in Lion Dance for the last 24 years. Ken has traveled extensively throughout Asia and he is now back in Boston. After initially moving and living in Penang for 6 months, the first waves of COVID hit worldwide, shutting Malaysia into lockdown. During this time Ken decided to devote his time to learning the art of Lion Head making. This exhibit shows the results.
Based in Boston, MA the Nüwa Athletic Club provides an environment for Asian American girls and women to enhance their physical and emotional development through teamwork, sportsmanship and cultural activities which includes but is not limited to lion dance.
Lily Xie is a Chinese-American artist and educator whose socially engaged work explores radical imagination, reimagined histories, and other routes to collective resilience. Lily shares strategies adapted from her drawing and bookmaking practices as tools for community empowerment and justice. Most recently, she was a member of the inaugural cohort of Radical Imagination for Racial Justice, a program from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and the City of Boston. Lily is part of New England Foundation for the Arts’ Public Art for Social Justice 2021 cohort, and has been awarded grants from The Boston Foundation, the Mayor's Office of Arts & Culture, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Transmedia Storytelling Initiative. Lily’s work has been displayed at the Boston Center for the Arts, Unbound Visual Arts, and Pink Noise Studios.
