The Year of the Snake Comes to Pao Arts Center!





















































Pao Arts Center welcomed the Year of the Snake on Sunday, February 9. 2025. This year visitors came from the Greater Boston area joined artists and creative from across the Asian diaspora to participate in drop-in crafts, demonstrations, and visual arts exhibits throughout the theater, classroom, and gallery.
Families played Bầu Cua Cá Cọp, a traditional dice game with the Harvard Vietnamese Student Association. They made Indonesian Batik Bookmarks with Maria Salim, created embroidered New Year wishes with Sam Lê Shave, and participated in traditional Chinese paper cutting with Zhonghe (Elena) Li. Visitors also crafted bojagi (보자기) with Mindy Tsonas Choi and the Boston Korean Adoptees, to wish for luck and prosperity in the new year.Kevin Nguyen shared the process of making lion dance heads and even got to try them on!
In the gallery, visitors added their own Lunar New Year Wishes to Amanda Beard Garcia’s interactive snake mural, viewed and even purchased Lunar New Year-themed art, and, before leaving, families and friends took their own selfies with the Chinatown Project!
The day was made possible with the assistance of all our amazing volunteers, partners, and supporters, Friends of Families with Children from China, and our wonderful participating artists, Amanda 陳 Beard Garcia, Harvard Vietnamese Student Association, Kevin Nguyen, Maria Salim, Mindy Tsonas Choi and the Boston Korean Adoptees, Sam Lê Shave, and Zhonghe (Elena) Li.
