Date: October 20, 2024 1:00 - 4:00 PM | Free and Open to the Public

Celebrate the unveiling at Ping Pong Block Party: Celebrating Community in Chinatown!

Ping Pong Tables of Chinatown: A Celebration of Diversity and Nature will feature two painted ping pong tables, which will be transformed into mobile and interactive art installations to encourage intergenerational gathering, play, and wellness.

Each artist is inspired by fond memories of growing up playing ping pong: Katelyn and her Korean grandparents bonding across language barriers and generations; Jenn enjoying ping pong as the first sport they played together with their parents; and Stephanie playing ping pong with her family after dinner to relax and have fun.

These tables will feature different themes. One table will depict Flora and Fauna of Chinatown, encouraging people to familiarize themselves with and appreciate the plants and birds coexisting in the community. The other table will focus on People of Chinatown, celebrating the people who live, work, and visit this neighborhood. The artists will invite the community to gatherings throughout the process, from live painting to ping pong tournaments.

Ping Pong Tables of Chinatown: A Celebration of Diversity and Nature is part of the Un-monument Initiative presented by Pao Arts Center, curated by Lani Asunción and in collaboration with City of Boston Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture. It is brought to you by a grant from the Mellon Foundation.
