On June 7, Mass Humanities recognized Pao Arts Center with the 2021 Mass History Commendation. Selected annually as part of the Mass History Conference, the award recognizes excellence by a Mass Humanities grantee.

Brian Boyle, Executive Director of Mass Humanities, presented the award and shared that Pao Arts Center has been the recipient of multiple Mass Humanities grants, including two Project Grants and a Digital Capacity Grant. “[Pao Arts Center’s work] exemplifies the idea that history is a community activity.”

Pao Arts Center Director Cynthia Woo accepted the award in a virtual ceremony in front of more than 50 conference attendees. She thanked Mass Humanities, partners and funders, and community members who have worked with the Center in the past 4 years to make sure that the API community is seen, celebrated, and that their stories are preserved.
