Welcome to Pao Arts Center Summer Interns!
Clara is a senior at Mount Holyoke College studying Theater Arts. She is excited to help create performance-based programming in Chinatown, where she spent nearly every weekend growing up taking language, dance, and music classes! When not acting onstage, Clara can be found assembling metal jewelry or singing Fiona Apple and Billie Holiday songs at the piano.
Saira is excited to interact with the Chinatown community, reflecting on ideas of home, belonging, and identity through creating and examining artwork together. She will be working on social media, exhibit programming, and Experience Chinatown. Saira a dual degree student at Tufts and SMFA, majoring in Clinical Psychology and Studio Arts with a minor in Anthropology. On campus Saira is involved with the South Asian Political Action Community, Students for Justice in Palestine and the Buddhist Mindfulness Sangha. Some of her favorite artists are Julie Mehretu, Titus Kaphar and Alice Neel.
Qing Qing is a third-year studying history and colonialism studies at Tufts University. She will be working mostly with the Residence Lab program and she is excited to get to know all the incredible artist-residents and to help document their process of community care in art-making. On weekends, Qing Qing can be found rollerblading, feeding the local squirrels, and making silly portrait studies on MS Paint!
Carlee is a rising senior at Boston Latin School. She is excited to engage with everyone this summer through something she loves - the arts! Additionally, she is looking forward to meeting all the artists as well! You may find her on stage at some events dancing and/or singing. Off stage, Carlee loves working on digital illustration and playing games with friends and family!
Sarah recently graduated from Boston Latin School. She is a current youth leader at the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center (BCNC). She enjoys exploring the arts through filmmaking and photography, where she can challenge her creativity by weaving in her culture and heritage. Sarah is passionate about working with Pao Arts this summer to make a statement and leaves a lasting impact on the community she loves dearly. In her downtime, she loves reading YA novels, hiking in New Hampshire and Vermont, and playing music on her guitar and ukulele.
Mandy is a recent graduate of Boston Latin School. She served as a youth leader at the Greater Malden Asian American Community Coalition and an officer at her school’s API club. She is super excited to be able to utilize art and storytelling in building the community that she loves. Mandy is looking forward to learning more about her community and uplifting those forgotten stories. In her free time, she can be found munching on seafood boils, window shopping, and singing or playing the guitar/piano.
